So, I've tried to post this several times. The forum is semi-borked and ate it every time. Short and sweet version.

Presidente's Presidential book club for the illiterate. Monthly club focused on free/cheap/available books. Mostly classic.

When talking about a book please use spoilers and reference the book + chapters / sections. I.e.

<Book title - Chapter/section you want to talk about>
<spoilers and the stuff you want to say>

The book currently is "The King in Yellow" as written by Robert W. Chambers! Each month I will pick a new book for us! Please feel free to suggest books for us to read next! Keep in mind the book should be widely available, free/cheap(under 5$) and something you want to read!

The current book is very available for free online, itune's iBook has it for instance. The popularity shot up after some references where made in HBO's True Detective. Meaning you are also likely to find it in bookstores or amazon.

As I said above, we can always use suggestions! Help by suggesting or voting for one that seems cool!

Come! Read! Discuss!

ENTP to a fault.

Some questions you might want to think about. You might even reply with your own answer to a few of them!
As always, use spoilers! Mostly because this contains them.

I've had someone tell me about The King in Yellow, but for some reason I always thought it was one of Lovecraft's. Anyway, stoked to start reading the actual thing!

I've only been able to really sit down with it twice, but I'm up to "In the Court of the Dragon". I think of the first two sections, I really enjoy the first more. Very happy with it, though.

I've been a little slow with it myself, given the nature of this weekend, my projects, and Mildville, but it's looking like the beginnings of an excellent story. I just came across this phrase in an early part of The Repairer of Reputations, which I really enjoy just because of how language has changed since the book was written (doesn't reveal anything so I didn't spoiler tag it):

"half a dozen trim dragoon troopers languidly lolling on the benches."

I like to think that as I read it today there are plenty of people lolling on benches, especially in Berkeley.

I've been struggling to get through the war sections and have been at a bit of a standstill, but in the meantime I have another idea for the next book:
The Birds, by Aristophanes, better known as the trope namer for Cloudcuckooland

A welcome return to all former and new illiterates!

I apologise that this book club should have perished. Certain events and distractions transpired to which I could not avail myself. As it is the start of a month, I could think of no better time to revive it.

Rising from its' long forgetten grave, the cold skeletal fingers of our dear book club guide lash out! Writhing and contorting its' digits until it at last lathargicly directs our attention to our latest classic!

"The Lost World" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Freely or cheaply available where ever good books are found.

I'm unsure how often I'll post about reading, here. With that said, I can always be contacted on steam or text to discuss it.

I sincerely hope you enjoy this selection as much as I do, Fellow illiterates! Happy reading!

ENTP to a fault.
